Eleanor’s door
The background is grey acrylic felt with an iridescent grey sheer attached to it by using a soldering iron and touching a fine point to the fabrics to make ‘eyelets’. The ‘eyelets’ form the pattern of the brick wall and courtyard bricks. The felt/sheer combo was fused to dark grey silk, using Misty Fuse, so that the eyelets became more prominent. The felt was painted in random design with yellow and grey acryclic paints.
The textured green cotton fabric for the door has an inner frame of fused green metallic fabric strips and the outer frame is fused grey silk strips. Silver beads form the door handles. The decorative frame of the door on top is cotton embroidery floss done in the chain stitch and whipped with metallic blending filament. The little tree is embroidered with rayon floss using the fly stitch. Small silver beads were added to complement the silver pot and silver door handles.
The edge finish was done using the directions in Quilting Arts magazine, Issue 32, page 52. I was quite pleased with result – it looks neater than other satin stitch edges I have done.
